Sustainable Environment Consultative Group involves students, teachers, parents, school leadership and community members and is convened as one of the school’s four strategic plan action groups. Current activity includes the following:
Energy
The school has worked with its facilities management provider and commissioned an energy audit, to plan future energy savings.
Waste
Two waste audits have been held over the last 15 months, giving information about what’s in the bins. A worm farm and composting project was implemented from interested middle school science classes.
Water
The school has a $50,000 community water grant and they are planning to use this to install rainwater tanks.
Youth Action
A group of students in “Roots and Shoots” and with links to YEC, is taking on sustainability education projects in the school and the community.
